The Art of Writing

In art 3, we were assigned a project where we had to create a portrait using only words. These could be either lyrics or emotions, so being a lover of music I chose the first option. Using lyrics from 'Believe Me Natalie' by The Killers I worked from a portrait of my father when he was a child.

"There is an old cliche
Under your Monet painting
Remember the arch of roses

This past year in art we made an altered book. Mine is titled "Double Vision." What I tried to do was create a double meaning in each piece to express the theme of "don't judge a book by it's cover".

 

The text in this one says "A book is not meant to be read. It is meant to be lived. To be that rabbit hole to Wonderland. To take you where your feet cannot. You can run to the furthest reaches of space, and then back, all in an hours time. And yet a book is so simple. It's just a bunch of paper and words, but those words have the ability to give life to impossible dreams."

A Nightmare on Young Ave.

A friend of mine and I made posters for a lemonade stand, but ended up having some left over. So we decided to do an art trade with the remaining two! While she makes me a poster, I made her one in return. She has an obsession with foxes, so I thought what better to put on it than a fox! So I did, adding a ravenclaw scarf to it. Since she also has a deep passionate love for all things relating to A Nightmare on Elm Street, I tried to incorporate that as well. For once, I've finished something the day I started it!

Materials: Poster board, Sharpies, and watercolor for the background.

Yet Another Scratchboard

I seem to have a fixation on scratchboards. They're just so enjoyable to work on and I love how little mess there is to clean up (depending on how you work that is). Not only that, but hey! Portable! (eh, once again, depending on how you work)

So here's the latest scratchboard, I plan to start a new one sometime in the next week.

I seem to have been ignoring this blog.

However, I have a piece I started the other night (yet to finish it, easter break should give me sufficient time)

Everything went better than expected!

A while ago my art teacher had set up a still life for us and we were given charcoal and ink to draw it. Apparently, we were told to concentrate on getting a full bike onto our paper. Which is where I went wrong. I thought we were just allowed to draw whatever, so that's exactly what I did, only to find out after I was finished that I did the very thing I was told not to do.

Amazingly, my drawing made it into the display cabinet.

Everything went better than expected!
